Affinity Photo

28 years experience as a professional graphic designer, exp with photoshop, Illustrator etc. I love the sister program Affinity Designer but Affinity photo is pure trash. The interface is insanely confusing and so @$$backwards you’ll want to throw your iPad through the wall after using it for 5 minutes. I suffered through using it for 12 days and finally gave up. Insanely disappointing dont waste your time.

Beside that very powerful app.

I’m using Affinity photo to quickly process photos from my Sony A7RIV, which is a 61 megapixel sensor. The files are NOT small, even using compressed RAW files. I use an external card reader to open the files directly via import. Then, it’s as easy as saving the modified image to iCloud via an export function with robust features. Done. Tip: Share is separate from save. Affinity handles the files like a champ with the M1 iPad Air. I’m coming from the Windows version of Affinity and trying the shrink my travel setup. I don’t have a pen or keyboard and so far Affinity as my main processing app is working pretty well. Will need to check back after more time! Happy customer.

The iPad version of Affinity Photo is the best photo editing app I’ve used on iPad. Hands down. I prefer the desktop version to Photoshop when examining it holistically to include cost, learning curve, etc. buy it, you will love it!

I have been using Affinity Photo on my Mac Book Pro for years, so I wanted to use it on may iPad Pro also. So I bought it today and while editing my second photo the app just disappear. I was working on a raw photo in the development persona and all my adjustments were lost. Not sure if I can trust this app.

Terrible user experience. Microscopic UI. Bad layout. Bad workflow. Needlessly complicated. The easiest tasks are a chore to complete.

I kinda regret buying this it’s confusing finding tools

While I love this app and it is surprisingly functional relative to most apps that claim to do the same things, I can’t recommend if you own the desktop version. The ui is different in a lot of ways which can be jarring when switching between the two. I still have not figured out if/how to do the simple action of flipping your selection horizontally or vertically. On top of that there’s seemingly some features that the app is capable of doing but doesn’t allow you to do on the app. For example line weight is not adjustable at all. When trying to give a vector line thickness you can, but you can’t change how the thickness grows or shrinks through out the line using profiles like you can on desktop. Yet when importing projects from desktop the retain their thickness profile, you just can’t change it for some reason? It’s small things like this that make switching to the iPad version of this software really frustrating, and with the additional price tag on top of it I can’t recommend unless you travel a lot and you need to be able to make edits to your projects on the go.
