8 of 25it crashes on my ipad every time i try to add a family or edit and sometimes to add someone. i love that i can use the ipad and hope for an update!
I've used this app with my phone and my Mac and they both work great.
My only problem has been the way I entered some people then used the program to find the mom or dad. This creates a new family. It is easier to create the parent relationship and then add the children.
Some experience helps alot!
Synchronizing databases has worked fine. I wondered why the sync has to be via Wifi or bluetooth rather than the data cable?
(Though this app has been available since August 2008, my review is based upon use of this app with the iPad after December 2010.)

MobileFamilyTree could have been so much more than it turned out to be, unfortunately bugs and poor UI design make this app unusable. The greatest flaw of this app: you can't see your charts in a full screen. This is because the user name list on the left side of the screen can't be hidden (UI issue or bug?) and if you make the mistake of searching for a name instead of tediously scrolling through the name list to find it, the keyboard might not close (this was reported as fixed in the v2.5.3 release notes, but more than half of times that I tried to hide it - it wouldn't close). This results in an approximately 5" x 2.5" window in which to view your charts; roughly a third of the iPad's entire screen. (Can you imagine trying to show a chart to your grandmother in such a small window?)

Instead of providing a bug free and usable app to those of us who bought MobileFamilyTree, Synium Software recently announced a replacement app for this product: MobileFamilyTree Pro. Since MFT-Pro is a new application, there is no upgrade path; so MobileFamilyTree buyers have earned the privilege of buying (at more than 3x the price!) another Synium product that (might) get future updates and fixes. The announcement of MobileFamilyTree Pro effectively means that MobileFamilyTree v2 will never see the necessary UI tweeks and bug fixes that it needs to make it usable. (Look for information about MobileFamilyTree on Synium's website if you think they plan to continue supporting it.) This product is effectively dead.

My advice: DO NOT BUY.
This is such a nice way to carry my enormous tree around on my I-phone. It is such a small way to see it but the app is so powerful. It is not a replica of the main computer program as it really has to reduce everything but it is all there including the photo's. My husband just bought the app for his i-pad and that is amazing because of the larger screen. They both allow you to edit your info. I have two trees on mine, my maternal which is 1300 names and my fraternal which I only have 500 names and both downloaded and synced just fine. It took a while to figure it out but now I have it. I did have to reboot the program and my phone to do each one. I think it is a mazing!
This version is truly awesome and works on my iPad as described. I have self-published two family histories - both maternaI and paternal lineage. I am delighted to have both databases available on my iPad. now, i anxiously await your next update. PLEASE add the capability of AirPlay being offered by iOS 4.3 in March. This will mean i can show my family and friends all my work using Apple TV to stream to the big screen! This is SO GREAT! Thank you.
I must give this 1 star. Instead of updating this $5 app, the developer has chosen to come out with the "Pro" version and charge another 8-16 dollars. So will the next release after this be the "Super Pro" version for another 20 dollars?
Just download and install MacFamilyTree 6,0.6 and MobleFamilyTree still crashes when I try to input a Child *
This would be a great app if it was able to handle my 4,000 person family tree. It is just way too slow especially when searching.
