Gaia GPS - Offline Topo Maps, Compass, and GPS Tracking for Trails – Hiking, Biking, Skiing, Camping, Running

I downloaded a rather large map area for offline use as most of my hiking trails are located outside of cellular data coverage. The offline map data loaded without issue the first couple of times, but then I noticed the map resolution had degraded to the point that it became unusable. In order to recapture the original high resolution, I would have to connect via wifi or cellular data while zooming to the location in question there by caching the the missing map files. This process only served as a temporary solution as cached map data is often overwritten by new map data as it is fetched by the app. It would appear that most of my downloaded maps are merely just cached and not truly available for offline use. This defeats the whole purpose of downloading map data for offline use.

I had rated this app poorly until the developer replied immediately upon contacting them- they instructed me how to navigate the app- now I can use it freely and it’s great

I had the Gaia GPS software and bought it many years back. Now there are bugs with the software and i am forced to buy there “new updated app”

Appreciate the response to my rating. I still love your app but as infrequently as I use Gaia, I will pass on the subscription and see what else is out there.

I use this primarily for bike trips. I prefer maps and knowing my route, so I'm not looking for a turn-by-turn Garmin device that does the navigating for me. However, this app will do that too. I prefer to upload a route, download maps to my phone, keep my phone on airplane mode and use this as a backup. Download the maps and you don't need service. Works great!

I'm confused with the new Gaia subscription vs non subscription. I bought the Gaia app and have an acct. <br/>What's the difference in maps and functionality between the one time purchase and the subscription?<br/>Also doe Gaia work in and have maps for Thailand , Cambodia, Canada and or Mexico? Also why can't I change setting to use my location only WHILE USING THE APP?

I spent $20 to buy the original Gaia gps app, and it seems since they've developed the new version uploading speeds have significantly decreased. Just to illustrate I was going to hike a portion of the Columbia River Gorge two weeks ago. I was downloading an area surrounding dog mountain. It took me over four hours to download this area. This was not an issue with my network, because I switched and used multiple networks, all of the networks I used were fast connections. No matter which network I used the download was ridiculously slow. This is the second time I've had this issue. <br/><br/>If they want to be greedy and start a new subscription service that is fine, but this should not come at a cost to the people who downloaded the original service for a one time fee. Gaia should still have obligations to provide quality service to these people as well.

It was a good app, but I cannot support the subscription model. It seems that Gaia saw a way to make more money at the user's continued expense. $20 is expensive for an app, and there are other, cheaper ones out there with equivalent functionality that continue to be supported without subscription fees.
