Has potential

by baxter-md · November 18, 2010

I love the idea of this app. But like a previous reviewer, of the 15 books I tested, only 2 are in the database. I have sent emails asking that a few additional books be added. I think this has the greatest potential for people like me who own over 50 cookbooks, some of which are now out of print.

The app has also crashed on me several times.

But I think this has potential.

Good concept, needs work

What a great idea! And the few cookbooks I was able to add seem to have been indexed well.

But only of my few cookbooks are in the app's database. I've sent emails asking that a couple others be added, so we'll see how quickly they show up.

Also, it appears that there's only room for about a dozen cookbooks to be included in anyone's collection-- if I only had a dozen cookbooks I don't think I'd need an app like this.

I accidentally added something to my favorites and I can't find a way to delete it.

After I added some cookbooks I did a search for pancakes just to see how the app worked. In my search results I got many duplicate entries. Perhaps this was because the original index was heavily cross-referenced. But, when the results show up in such a tiny square to scroll through better editing would be really nice.

Over all this is promising and could easily be worth $4.99, but at the moment that's too much. I wish I had waited for some updates before handing over my money.

Wow!

I have to commend the software developers. They came up with an ingenious way to take my $4.99 and give me almost nothing in return! Bravo!

Don't waste your money!

Would have given it zero stars if it was possible!
This app looked so promising, but it turned out to be a dud. Expected some linkage to recipe books and individual recipes in our bookshelf collection. All we got was an app that tells us if our books have a recipe and the page it was on. The developers just viewed the index of (very few) recipe books and noted the pages of the recipes. That's it! None of our books, except for one was even in their data base and the data base was very small.
Technically there were problems: no way to get out of search mode without "searching" ( have to search on a blank item ). From the favorites section there is no way to delete a favorite... app locks up the iPhone/iPad. The app is not retina display and not for the iPad (ie, HD ). Very disappointing purchase. Wouldn't even be worth 99 cents!

Disappointing!

This App has great potential. Unfortunately it offers very few cookbooks and requests for updates of cookbooks have not been filled. At $4.99 I got an App that only matched one of my many, many cookbooks. This is the first time that I've really made a purchase that I was so disappointed in!

Great concept, disappointing implementation

Like other reviewers, I think this is a great concept. I have over 50 cookbooks that I've collected over the years, and I've forgotten what is in each of them. What a great idea to be able to search for "brussel sprouts" and see all the recipes I already have on-hand in cookbooks on the shelf.

Unfortunately, after buying the application and trying it, I was disappointed.

1) I had expected it to run in full resolution on the iPad, it does not. It is an iPhone app.
2) Only 4 of my cookbooks are in the database and I got very tired of entering the ISBN numbers of other, very popular, cookbooks while requesting them to be added. I've received no replies to my submissions and don't know if they were received and will be considered.
3) If I search for something and it is not found, the app seems to show all cookbooks in its library -- it does not show "none" as I would expect, nor does it show only those that I own and have "registered" with the application. Several times the UI and its behavior was very confusing to me.
4) The program locked up several times and I had to restart it to get back to using it
5) Some of the cookbooks in the library are titled incorrectly. Since when is Bobby Flay called BobFlay?
6) Text encodings are screwed up and certain diacritical characters are garbled making it hard to read
7) The author's web site is very weird and irrelevant and I could not find any help there or more information or a way to ask questions or leave this feedback.
8) Cookbook search (trying to match your cookbook to one in their library) was very iffy. I searched by common terms that were not found and sometimes terms that did have a "hit" did not seem to be relevant.
9) Needs better searching such as "exact words" or "find any term" or "find all terms", etc. Search results are not really very useful.

I hope for updates that makes this usefu
