Essay

Documents look very good. The first writing app I've found to offer something like real paragraph spacing. Like others, I would love to see sub-folders, but this is truly a great writing app already.

First of all, it's true that it's still a little buggy here and there, it won't read files not created in Essay (so keep a blank to copy from in Dropbox if you want to work on your desktop), and it doesn't have tags or folders. It's also a text-based application, so if you want a multimedia extravaganza, look elsewhere.<br/><br/>But it's a joy to use, a lovely, efficient, and well-designed implementation without a lot of distractions that get in the way of writing. It works wonderfully with my old Stowaway keyboard, although it uses different shortcut keystrokes (not the developer's fault). I use it as a wikified research journal, but it could also be used for blogging or text-based notetaking. Well worth the $3.

Some people say that it doesn't work with drop box . But all you have to do is go into your setting on essay and turn on dropbox. Completes all my needs

Can't seem to figure out how to do a sub-bullet. On a computer, if I have a bullet list and hit 'enter' it goes to the next line with a bullet. If I hit 'tab' it indents with a sub-bullet. Notability has this feature.

Syncing is great, and the interface is truly wonderful. It's simple, out of the way, but powerful and well-designed. The first text editor I've been really happy with.<br/><br/>That said, the main weakness is that it doesn't export to non-HTML files and only recognizes HTML files in the Dropbox folder or iTunes file sharing. A more powerful import function would be nice.<br/><br/>Some more fine-grained control over the HTML would be nice as well - perhaps a &quot;view source&quot; mode?

This is quite flexible once I get played around with it for a while. The HTML editor is a breeze and I can type it quickly as if I were typing it on a laptop. Dropbox integration retains the formatting, which is neat. My only complaint is that when you type really fast, it tends to drag behind for a second and then catching up. Also, when choosing and replacing a word/letter, the magnifying glass tends to show the sentence above where I wanted it to zoom in. Other than that, it's a good program to take notes or write a journal!

I've been looking for a simple wysiwyg HTML editor for the iPad that integrates well for email ever since the iPad came out. I've only had Essay for a little while but so far it does almost everything I have been looking for. Finally I can create a professional looking email from the ipad. One more big step towards getting rid of my work laptop altogether.<br/><br/>The only major thing I see missing is support for tables. Any plans for creating &amp; editing HTML tables guys?? Add tables &amp; I'll figure out how to give you 6 stars!
