8 of 15It's SO FREAK'N GREAT having both this and the original R-Type available on my phone. These two games were the first shmups that I ever played and the fact hat I'm playing them almost 30 years later is a testament to how incredibly amazing they are.<br/>And... thousands of people are in the same boat as I am - so, if you're questioning yourself while hovering over the 'buy' button, I'll just say this:;:<br/>DotEmu has done a FANTASTIC job porting this over to the touch-screen. There's plenty of options and the relative touch controls are P E R F E C T. You can also play with a virtual joystick if that's what you'd like, and they included the option to move all the buttons around and resize them. It also has MFi support - so if a controller is more up your alley, you're set.<br/>You can also change the video settings so that the aspect ratio is 1:1 to the original. You can toggle the graphic filtering on and off and you can also add scan lines if that's your thing. <br/>They've also added an unlimited mode so that you can play all the way through to the end with an infinite amount of continues - as well as an Insane mode that you can unlock after beating the game on Normal.<br/><br/>All of this to say - THIS PORT IS PERFECT! <br/>If you're an R-Type fan, there's no reason you shouldn't get this.<br/>If you're a shmup fan, there's no reason you shouldn't smash that BUY button.<br/>And if you're curious about one of the best shoot 'em ups of ALL TIME - you needn't worry about getting an inferior version - in fact, I choose to play this version rather than the PlayStation version I have sitting under my TV - it's THAT. GREAT.<br/><br/>THANK YOU IREM AND DOTEMU!!!

This is the game Super R-Type that was released on the Super Nintendo way back when we were kids.

It’s fun but wish there were checkpoints so you don’t have to start over from the beginning
Needs update. Controls take up half screen when playing iPhone XS Max and iOS 13
I downloaded this onto my iPhone and the touch screen controls make this unplayable. Most of the time my finger is blocking something that is happening and it caused most of my deaths. Game could use an option to have a "slide" on the side that doesn't contain the actual game so you can use your finger without it covering gameplay. Would have been fun but 100% waste of $3.
